Employment Counselling

We Help with Employment

WIDHH’s Employment Counselling services are provided by certified Employment Counsellors who offer a full range of services for jobseekers and employers.

Our Employment Counsellors are fluent in American Sign Language and English, and use a bicultural and bilingual approach in service provision. We believe in providing individualized, client-centred planning to assist jobseekers and employers in achieving their goals.

WIDHH Employment Counsellors are Certified Career Development Practitioners (CCDP). This means that they are:

  • Professionals who exhibit career development knowledge, needs assessment skills, referral expertise, and interpersonal competence as a career development professional
  • Registered with the Career Counselling Practitioners Association
  • Committed to adhering to a professional code of ethics outlined by the Canadian Standards and Guidelines for Career Development Practitioners

WIDHH’s Employment Counselling Services are available at our West 7th Avenue Head Office in Vancouver, our Tri-Cities Office in Port Coquitlam, and in Surrey.




For Jobseekers

WorkBC – Employment Program of BC (EPBC):

WIDHH provides services under the provincial government’s Employment Program of BC to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals in obtaining and maintaining employment.  The Employment Program of British Columbia is funded by the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia.

If you are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and seeking employment, WIDHH’s professional Employment Counsellors can assist you with the following FREE services to help you achieve your employment goals:

  • Return to work action plans (including placement services)
  • Resume and cover letter assistance
  • Skills development and training
  • Career goal identification and career exploration
  • Workplace assessments and interventions (including employment crisis counselling)
  • Access to disability supports for work: alerting devices, FM systems, hearing aids, and American Sign Language interpreter
  • WIDHH works in partnership with GT Hiring Solutions, Open Door Group and Pacific Community Resources Society

Opportunities Fund Program

The Opportunities Fund For Persons with Disabilities is a program funded by the Government of Canada.

  • You will work with a Case Manager to develop skills and become employment ready in order to gain valuable work experience potentially leading to Full Time employment.
  • You will receive funds for living expenses, transportation, sign language interpreting, training, disability supports, and hearing aids.


The Government of Canada has contributed funding to this initiative.

Employment Resource Room

WIDHH’s West 7th Avenue Head Office houses a free Employment Resource Room where jobseekers can visit and conduct self-directed job searches. We welcome you to visit us! 

The Employment Resource Room is open Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm (closed 12:00pm to 1:00pm) and is equipped with:

  • Computers equipped with internet access, MS Word, and Excel
  • TTY, amplified telephone, fax machine, photocopier, and printer
  • Employment resource library, labour market information, and community information

Employer Services

WIDHH strongly supports employers in increasing knowledge, understanding, and willingness to provide employment opportunities for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals. If you are currently employing or thinking of hiring a Deaf or Hard of Hearing individual, WIDHH’s Employment Counsellors provide the following on a fee-for-service basis:

  • Sensitivity training
  • Workplace assessments and supports
  • Adaptive technology in the workplace
  • Access to Sign Language Interpreters
  • Public and corporate presentations
